Haha, he wanted to know if you had a boyfriend because he was going to ask you out. When he found out you did, he was testing the waters to see if you were the type to have an affair. He covered his back at every stage of the conversation to avoid allowing you the window of opportunity to make him feel like a jack. He only left you windows to play into his well thought out scam to pick up on women at wal-mart...it's a good thing you didn't, he sounds like womanizer.
